PART ONE
Photography, posing, lighting.

6-hour course
(1.4hr breaks | 4.6hr work time)
RUNDOWN:
The workshop will feature three different models, each expertly styled and paired with lovely setups/backdrops. As we work through each model, we will be playing with a different lighting setup. After instruction and showing you how I’ve set up, you’ll each have a chance to photograph the model in the scene with the lighting setup, with 1 on 1 help from me while you shoot! After everyone has had a turn, we’ll move on to the second model and setup, and the same cycle with repeat until we have finished with all three sets/models. Once we’re done with our setups, everyone will be set free to create and experiment. Pull a model from one setup into another, change gel colors, and play around with our accessories, headpieces, and even wings! I’ll be available the whole time to help you with settings, lights, and anything else you need.
WHAT WE’LL LEARN:
-How to use strobes for portraits, and three different strobe setups.
-Modifiers, reflectors, snoots, gobos, grids, and more.
-How to balance ambient/continuous light with strobes.
-How to pose models, and some posing mistakes to avoid.
-How to work with gels & color theory in selecting gel colors.
-Basic photography rules, and when to break them.
- Using Vflats to block/bounce lights.

6:15p – Editing & experimenting. Playing with colors, layers, layer masks, etc.

Set 1 (10:45a)
Classically styled, soft & painterly, natural/neutral tones, lovely gown, old master’s backdrop. Classic clamshell lighting with a large, soft modifier. Simple lighting setup where the focus is on your settings and camera work. Shooting in wider apertures, bouncing light, getting eyes tack-sharp, working in portrait distances (35mm, 85mm, etc.)

Conceptually styled, mixing both classic looks with bold shooting techniques. Fog machine, backlit with gels, bouncing light with Vflats.
RUBY REDFOX
Set 2 (11:45a)
Wearing a long red/glittery ballgown.
Bold styled. Gels, lots of hard lighting, snoots, grids, colorful. A more extreme lighting setup, where the focus is balancing multiple lights to make a scene. Shooting in higher/smaller apertures to get more of an image/scene in focus. Getting more creative with lens choices, such as wide angles for portraits.

[Only for Pt. 2 Participants]
Will be wearing giant golden wings, an extravagant headpiece, and a suit of armor shot against the giant stained-glass window.
Conceptually styled, mixing both classic looks with bold shooting techniques.
Backlighting the scene with gels, using bounce light with Vflats.
All lights are provided for use during the workshop. Triggers will be provided/shared and are available for Nikon and Canon cameras. If you have something other than Nikon or Canon, please bring a Godox-compatible trigger for your camera.
